Five Things to Do in Wincanton (Besides Visiting Us)
Our guide to getting the most out of a weekend in our corner of Somerset
# Five Things to Do in Wincanton
Look, we'd love it if you spent your entire visit at The Bear. But we're not that needy. Here are five other things worth doing while you're in town.
## 1. Wincanton Racecourse
Jump racing at its finest, just a mile from the pub. Perfect for a day out – and we're the ideal place for a post-race pint.
## 2. Stourhead Gardens
One of the most beautiful landscape gardens in Britain, about 15 minutes away. Go for the temples, stay for the autumn colours.
## 3. King Alfred's Tower
A 160-foot folly on the Somerset/Wiltshire border with views across three counties. Worth the climb.
## 4. The Market
Wincanton's market has been running since 1235. Pop down on a Wednesday or Saturday morning for local produce, bric-a-brac, and proper Somerset atmosphere.
## 5. The Wincanton Carnival
Every November, the town comes alive with illuminated floats, marching bands, and more sequins than you thought possible. It's utterly bonkers and absolutely brilliant.
